Thumbs up

Possum

Not trying to talk you out of the Montana Rifleman Action but
I would start with a Remingtion action for your first biuld.

The reason is that they are very simple to blueprint, they respond
well to accurizing and a good donor rifle is inexpensive.

Also good Stocks are easy to find for the Remingtion.

Plus as a gunsmith you will probably build more custom rifles on
Remingtion actions than anything else.

Plus after your finished you will have a nice custom rifle that will
shoot well.

Just my opinion

On the other hand, it would be nice to have more accuracy minded M70 specialists around. But the 700 would be alot easier to start with.

Montana Actions are just fine for a student to work on

The main problem with Montana 1999 actions is delivery. I have built two rifles on these actions an have a third action on order. I placed my last order on December 4, 2007 and have been given several promised delivery dates. I don't think Jeff and Devin have improved on Bryans delivery problems. The Montana will require some fit and finish work.
