JC Higgins Model 50

I inherited a JC Higgins Model 50 chambered in 270 Cal. I am trying to mount a 40MM bushnell 3 x 9 scope and the bolt will not pass below the back of the scope. The bushnell scope will require taller bases for the bolt to clear the scope. Does anyone have any tips on replacement bases or shims and longer mounting screws.

Thanks,

Texas Meat Hunter

Re: JC Higgins Model 50

What you need is a set of higher rings. Scope rings are made in low, medium, & high. Bases are all about the same hight.

Shortgrass,

Do you know of a source of getting High mount rings? Or a particular manufacturer?

Re: JC Higgins Model 50

Everything depends on the style of the bases you have. Weaver bases won't accept Leupold, Redfield, or Burris, and, vis-a-vis. Let me ask this, does the rear base have two big screws, one on each side, to hold the ring on?and the front ring 'rotate' 90deg. into its position? Most gun shops carry rings and bases or , online, you might go to www.midwayusa.com.
