Building a Savage

I have noticed a few of you guys put together your own rifles using Savage actions and I have decided to do the same. Can anyone suggest a product that shows the steps and processes to putting these rifles together? Where did you get your tools and pieces for assymbly?

Thanks Much

Best advise is to become a paid member at Savageshooters.com. You'll get access to the technical articles and classifieds.

Once you've done it a few times, you'll wonder why anyone ever buys any factory action besides Savage/Stevens.

Best advice of the day right there!!! You will need to check out Sharp Shooter Supply also Sharp Shooter Supply - The Savage Specialists

I just got a recoil lug and nut wrench from them, had them in four days. I was using a rigged up way to remove the barrel nut, I would advise to get the right wrench up front!!

I now look at a those clunky old Savages in the pawn shop as an opportunity.

Re: Building a Savage

Thanks guys

I joined Savage Shooters but didn't do the paid member thing. It kinda sucks that they want you to pay. This site is awesome and its free. Oh well I'll probably pony up and get the full membership.

Pay the membership and be done. BUT, be prepared to sit down and read/gather all the info you can remember!!

Barrel nut wrench sold by Jim at Northlanders is made by McRee Precision - it is the least expensive AND the best one out there.

Northland Shooters Supply

See the above...contact Jim by calling him and ask any questions you see fit. There is nobody better at customer service....period.

Good advice, I've heard the Mcree wrench is an excellent tool!! You can also score an action and prefit barrel from Nothland!
