Browning A Bolt Stock

Just removed my synthetic Browning A Bolt Stock ( 7mm Remington) for the first time to install a Timney spring kit. The rife never has shot that great and it looks like there is a small amount of bedding material that was installed from the factory. The edges of the material aren't cracked but have some air gaps between the action and the stock. Any suggestions?

Re: Browning A Bolt Stock

If your rifle has a BOSS, you need to bed it using the same material Browning uses! (Sorry, the name escapes me.) If the rifle doesn't have a BOSS, you can use any bedding compound.

Re: Browning A Bolt Stock

Why would the BOSS have anything to do with the bedding material ???

Re: Browning A Bolt Stock

Rifles with a BOSS use a rubbery bedding compound that is (apparently) meant to deaden harmonic vibrations. There has been at least one thread on here recently that identified the compound.

There are reports that the BOSS doesn't work as well with traditional (hard) bedding compounds.
