Re: barrel weight and accuracy problems

Not surprising with action moving in the stock and the bolt touching the stock. If it were me I'd start to question/check all the work you think was done and it's quality. Ditto w/Nesikachad-check everything. if your not comfortable or able to check then have a quality smith take a peek.

Re: barrel weight and accuracy problems

the rifle was built by the one person, who is meant to be a reputable gunsmith in new zealand. ill deffinatly check if the mag box is floating and maybe see if i can get something done about this bedding situation.

I was actually quite surprised when i relised that the bolt could touch the stock. the bolt doesnt touch on the sides it touches on the bottom just to explain that a little more.

if this is the quality of work Im starting to wonder if the chamber has been cut in line with the barrel and how square the threads have been cut...

hmmm.....

I would take off the scope with rings and check the scope mount screws for tightness.

I would take another accurate rifle to the range and shoot both to see if the whole problem is wind.

Need to find someone who knows how to build a rifle ---- you have a blacksmith not a gunsmith.

One other thing to check, is the magazine box able to wiggle up and down? If it's bound up it means that bedding job isn't doing anything as the action isn't in the stock, it's sitting on top of the mag box. You should have about .030-.050 of wiggle room.

Good luck.

the mag box can wiggle around.

the mount is on tight and the rings were tight but they were never lapped so i just put some signature rings on to see if that changes anything. ive made room for the bolt to close without bottoming out on the stock.
I've been pretty busy with work and it seems its always the winds always blowing when i have a spare moment and calm when im busy. But ill get it out at first oppertunity.

if this fails ill get that recoil lug rebedded and if that fails ill put my tried and tested nightforce on it! if everything fails ill have to have it rechambered or reabarreled by someone else

hopefully it all works out!
