Barrel Vise

I am interested in finding the best barrel vise that will break Remington 700 barrels without having to break the bank. I have tried Midways junk and now am looking for something that works. Please advise me on what your thoughts are and where to buy. Thanks, Todd

Re: Barrel Vise

The davidson and tubb vices are aluminium and to lite duty for serious work. Get some 1.5" square stock and build your own. The net is full of plans and pics.

Re: Barrel Vise

I see nothing wrong with aluminum vises as demonstrated below ...

YouTube - Barrel Removal with Action Wrench and Barrel Vise.

... and similarly with the Midway vise ...

Re: Barrel Vise

The brownell's action wrench and barrel vise setup is hard to beat. Heavy duty enough to take care of most any job you'll ever run into.

+1

I bought this vise and a set of aluminum bushings in different sizes and contours.

And have not found anything that it would not remove (Even the Remingtons with
the thread sealer).

I use a heavy paper shop towel to protect fine finishes.

Re: Barrel Vise

don't get me wrong, I have and use an aluminum bbl vise, but only for bench guns that have already had the bbl's removed once. They just are nott strong enuf for that "first time" break.
