Barrel coatings

Has anyone ever heard of coating the inside of a rifle barrel with titanium nitride?

    No.

No barrel maker approves any coating on the inside of a barrel.

TIN used to be the thing way back but it doesn't wear for beans, much better coatings for tooling now.

Some companies use a salt bath nitride for the entire barrel. The benefit is that it draws the carbon up to the surface and hardens the steel at a molecular level down to several thousands below the surface. It provides an extremely hard surface and wears quite well. It also stress relieves the steel at the same time as the bath is kept above 1000 degrees F.
