250 savage

I'm thinking about building a 250 savage and was just wondering what would be the best action to use, a remington short or a standard length action?

Thanks

Take a look at the OAL of loaded rounds in some of the loading manuals, a Remington 700 SA will be just right.

The 250 Savage is a fine deer cartrige and often over looked.

Brass and ammo is still available , and there is a good bullet selection for the 25.

As Shortgrass said, the short action Remington will do fine, or even the Mod 7 Remington
that has the same length magazine but a shorter bolt and reciever and would be more
compact will work if you found one. (I use a lot of them for the WSMs).

With recoil being very light the rifle can be light and will not require a muzzle break.

As with all Remington's there are plenty of accessories to modify it with if you want to.

    Good luck on your build.

that round has always been high on my want list! But I've always wanted one in a Savage 99 with the rotoary magazine. The Ackley version may have been one of he very best designs. gary

Thats why I want to build one, the 250 was my first big game rifle, and it was in the savage 99 with the brass rotary mag, shot everything with with that little gun, but like a dumb@#$ i sold it when the magnum craze hit me! Now since I married a gal from california and have to live here, I think it would be a perfect round for these little black tail deer that roam this country!

A 250 Savage was my first hunting rifle as well, love that little bugger. Rebarreled it and had it chambered to a 250 AI, really woke up that cartridge!! Killed piles of deer and more than a few elk with it, I want to build another one for my daughter to start hunting with.

Me too. But I still have mine. It is an early take-down M99 that my great grandfather bought new in 1917. It will belong to one of my daughters some day.

My vote would be to build one on a Savage action.
