It depends on whether you want to use the course to improve your skills, see what your next step needs to be to extend your range or to Win.

A full long range set up is needed in addition to the rifle. Range finder, weather meter, angle indicator etc.

Ranges are from a couple of hundred to 1200. Shots that count have to hit the "vital" sized steel plate.

Any fashionable cartridge that will hit to 1K is fine. The rifle should shoot close to or less than .7 MOA, my arbitrary guess as I like !/2 MOA or less very well.

Any LRH or tactical configuration would be good.

Also the front rest/bipod should be able to handle 35+ degree shot angles both up and down.

Re: sniper golf

Have a goal to build up something that shoots 1/4 MOA at 100 yards and am leaning towards something like a .338 Edge. Obviously a lot of rifles would work but so far this cartridge is saying yes to me (and to a lot of others on this list obviously based on the number of discussions).

Re: sniper golf

Roy beat me to the reply

We have enough N Idaho folks up here that we should set up our own informal shoot some weekend. Maybe camp up at Priest.

Re: sniper golf

Ya'll form a team up there. We'll form one down here.

Then we'll meet and we'll take your money, marbles and chalk.

One 'successful' round of this golf thing and you're confidence is way up there. Note, I said successful.

The Edge is a very good cartridge. Howver, I'd not have just anyone put it to gether. The majic is in the craftsmanship. Especially, if you want that 0.25" consistency from the get go. And, without a bunch of barrel wearing shots to tune it.

Re: sniper golf

Here was the version I played when we were in Montana.
300 yard drive and shot

It was just for fun, no scoring or other people doing it. For some reason I've always wanted to hit a ball 300 yards then shoot it.

The way I see it is that a person gets every thing ready for LRH, as ready as one can get. That may differ for each individual. As in, I thought I was ready but wasn't as ready as I thought.

Then 5 guys get together as that is the min number to make it worth if for the range operation. At 50 or 55 $ each I realy believe its worth it.

If a person brings 30 loads he/she should go home with at least 8. That would be for one who isn't ready or just shoots too much. Ranges are unknown, until the range finder lets every one know.

The wind is the big if. It can vary enough to to cause a miss.

The only one in the "area" is 17 miles west of where I-15 meets I-84.

In typical Utah fashion people show up with more truck than is needed and hauling the latest over priced ATV. There is a two track between each station. I just used my Habitat Invasion Vehicle- Carrier (HIV- Carrier) i.e., suzuki side kick.

Group travel would be in order. You get here, I'll get us there.

We just need more troops......

Rexburg has a 1K range where the do a local F-Class thing,

Blackfoot has a range but nothing is organized for LRH activities. In the mid 70s I rand the bench rest and hunter class events nearly ever summer weekend for 4 or 5 summers. I finally wised up and don't do that any longer.
