Question on Boyd Rifle stocks

Has anyone here ever used Boyd thumbhole stocks and if you have whats your opinion as to the quality. How do you like the way it feels. I just picked one up for my M700P 26" bull barrel chambered in .308 and waiting for it to come in. It is free floating up to the mounting lug and has the factory studs already installed. I have ask this question on other forums and the concensis is they are excellant. I'm just curious if there is anything I need to be aware of or any improvements I should do. I will be installing a Timney trigger 1 1/2 - 3 lbs. Should do the trick! One more thing, is there anything I could do to the bolt on this Remington that should be done? The fact that it's a 2 lug, does this bolt design give enough equal pressure to the case?

The boyds are ok if you pillar bed the action .

As to the Remingtion action , They are very good and if you can lap the lugs in to 100%
engaugement they will work very good.

I like to blueprint any action before I lap it in because it trues everything up and using
1500 micron garnet makes it very smooth on opening.

VSSF, That's a very nice piece! I didn't know Boyd made a stock for the Encore frame, good to know. I got my stock in a put it on my M700P and it feels awesome, I like it. Took it to the range the other day and it was a big improvement over the factory stock. Glad I bought it! Thanks for your reply.

P.S. looks like your Encore could use the Prohunter swing hammer up grade. Only thing is you will have to send it in to T/C in order to get it done. They won't just send you one. I just got back from T/C this morning "hour away" and dropped off to Encore frames of my brothers. They get $69.99 + shipping for each frame and it takes 2 - 3 weeks. Then it's going to their custom shop to have the trigger re-set to 3 lbs. Sad because I just finished doing a trigger job on the both and had them at 2.08 lbs. Once they see that the trigger was modified, they will replace all the parts back to stock and send it to their custom shop. They won't set it under 3 lbs.

I did a trigger job on my Prohunter and have it at 2.0 lbs and it shoots like a BR rifle. I like it. I have a 300 Win Mag "Bergara" barrel on it and it is very accurate.

I used one on a 98 Mauser 6.5X55 build a few years ago. I loved the feel of that stock.

i built a 6X284 on a savage action last yr and i love the stock. the only prob i have found is the height of the cheek piece. mine needs to be about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch higher. i am in the process of cutting out the comb and installing an adjustable cheekpeice. i did do the pillar bedding also. AJ
