300 Weatherby at 1000yards?

I have a 300 Weatherby with a 26 inch barrel and a 1 in 10 twist. I am reloading using Weatherby brass with Redding type s bushing dies. Using RE22 and CCI250 caps. with 190 grain Burgers. Run out is held to .002- .001. Have a Leupold 4.5X14-50MM with AO on top. I am currently getting 3 inch groups at 400. Would like to try 500 and then work up to 1000. How do you think this combo would work at such a distance on a gong? This long range target shooting sort of starts out slow then grows into a monster and it will not leave you alone. It sort of consumes you and that's all you end up thinking about all day every day and you can hardly wait to get to the range. Is this normal? Help

The Weatherby will do fine !!

But you on the other hand have the sickness and from what I hear it is incurable.

You might try even bigger bullets for longer distances like the 200 and 220gr Match Kings.

You might as well give in to the sickness and step up to a better long range scope. The better you see the better your groups, as for the 190's we used them in a 300wsm to kill a pd at 2200 yds. and I still use them to shoot my 500yd target at the ground hog matches everything else we use the 210 bergers. Your caliber is as good as they come for 1000yd stuff lots of matches are won with a weatherby or the weatherby improved. Goodluck with that sickness it only gets worse with age I know I have it also.

You have shootitious, commently refered to as triggers disease.
There is no known cure. Convenional medical wisdom says nothing but percription strength shooting accesories will relieve your symptons.
You are in the first stages. As the stages get progresively worse you will go from informal shooting at gongs to serious long range compitition shooting, and more hunting trips. The really bad cases have been know to infect family members as well. If you wife develops and interest in your sport she too has been infected with shootitious. start her on perscription strength equipment imediatly.

The 200 and up bullets are best in the 300wby. I used the 210 serria's with 7828 when I owned that rifle. Mine was a 700 classic so i didn't have the freebore issue the Mk5 has.
I'd look hard at the 208 amax the smk's and the bergers in a coated bullet. With the factory rem barrel it would go into 8" at the 1k mark with 5 shots. That was with a 4-12 nikon in a rifle that weighed less than 10#s no break. The cci 250's worked best for me back then (1988-91)
Retumbo wasn't invented when I used that caliber but I would guess it will be the best powder for that caliber today
For short range accuracy the 165-168 match bullets over 79 gns of h4831 with the 250 primer was a one hole load. It's right around 3000 fps
