Semi Auto 22 Magnum

Hello everyone. I am looking for ideas on a gift for my father. He would love to have a semi auto 22 magnum. I was hoping I could get some advice/real world experience on a good make/model. I don't want to purchase something that he will be disappointed with. Thanks in advance for anything anyone has to say.

Magnum Research 10/22 magnum.

Ruger also made a magnum version of the 10/22 for a while but ceased production.

Might I suggest you peruse the texashuntingforums classifieds. You might find a 597 magnum or two for sale. One is for a good price, but I can't bring myself to buy it right now.

I would agree with the 597's but after the trouble they've had with the .17 hmr's I wouldn't trust them. And I know there is a different between the .22 mag and .17 but I had a 597 in .17 ( and I loved it) but I saw the damage it had in 200-300 rounds. Especially if he plans to put ALOT of rounds through it I would rule out the 597.
