Got my First Grey Squirrel of 2009

This past spring break i decided to fit in as much shooting as possible since I havent had time with college and everything. So after shooting various crows at different distances with the .204 and .22WMR WITHOUT a camera, I smartened up and started to carry it with me now. Shot this one at about 30 yds with my Savage .22WMR at the top of a tall oak tree (I know not stunning but i was excited). Sent a CCI Maxi-Mag 40Gr HP at it and didnt expand much on exit. Got it right through the spine though so it didn't really matter. My dog had chased it up the tree and kept it up there for me to get it. Here's a couple pics of it:

My dog really wanted to "play" with it...

I like to squirrel hunt also. Season hasn't opened here yet.
Good job.

Nice shot. Be careful though...you've started down the road of addiction. You're young so this addiction could last a loooong time. I recommend you buy as many rifles as you can now so that you can head-off any potential withdrawal pangs you might experience.

Re: Got my First Grey Squirrel of 2009

My favorite squirrel area had back to back bad acorn production years. So the squirrel population is so low that I will not hunt it for fear of not having a huntable spot for too many more years into the future.

Haha..i hear ya! I've already started my collection and I'm pretty satisfied where I'm at. Maybe new optics soon though. Ive got a .22LR, .22WMR, .204Rug, and a .243Win. Thats enough for me and the rifles I've found myself shooting the most are the 204 and 22WMR.

Re: Got my First Grey Squirrel of 2009

Racr350....you clearly need more rifles. If you hunt squirrels, I'm sure you hunt deer. A .243 is nice on deer, but a 7-08, 308, 280...the list goes on and on...Also you'll need to start stretching the distance on your squirrel hunting. That .204 will reach out and touch them from waaaay over there. I've got a .223 and a good spot to shoot 100+ yards at squirrels. Haven't been able to get one to sit still long enough though.
