10/22 accuracy
Ive got an older model 10/22 probably mid to early 80s that I put a Volquartsen Carbon Fiber THM barrel on with the 32 hole comp., a Volquartsen trigger group, a archangel deluxe target stock to free float the barrel and an 18x scope and Im just not real happy with the accuracy.
Ive tried about a dozen different loads and had the best luck with Fiocchi Biathalon Match ammo and Ive got a couple 5-shot groups that I was happy with but most are not what I consider acceptable. Im shooting out of a long building so the first 20 of the 50yds Im shooting is completely wind free and Im shooting off of a table, tried a bipod and rear bag, front and rear bags, and a leadsled... Maybe Im expecting to much from a semi auto rimfire but at 50yds I was hoping for a five shot group to have all the bullets touching, and preferably more of a wallowed out hole maybe .40 diameter. Most of my groups are inside the 1" square of the sight in targget but scattered all over inside of the 1" square... the thing that gets me is that my dads old Hawthorne bolt action will shoot with this thing all day and for the most part probably out shoot it and thats just a 9x scope. I guess I was hoping for closer to 1" at 100yds not just 50yds... am I expecting way too much out of this little rifle or is there something else I can do to help it out?
Ive been throwing around the idea of scraping the Volquartsen barrel and putting a 21" clark barrel on it instead, they come with a 5-shot 100yds 1" accuracy guarantee and I know this barrel, or gun for that matter wont touch 1" at 100yds as of now

Believe it or not. I've had great luck with bulk American Eagle through my match barrel. We were shooting golf balls at 100 yards with it last Friday after sighting in a new scope. Granted my barrel is not a Volquartsen, but the AE might be worth a try if you haven't done so already.

Re: 10/22 accuracy
My 30 year old 12/22 that t totally stock does 1in groups at 100 yards if I do my part, not fantastic, but considering that I rarely shoot it more than 50 yards, more than adequate for what I need

Re: 10/22 accuracy
I built a 10-22 with a Volquartsen SS fluted barrel a few years back in a laminated thumbole stock. I used the dime sized little orange stickers for targets. That rifle would literly put 10 shots into a raged hole on a dime sized sticker almost every time 50 yards. It was not picky about ammo either, however I did use match grade ammo. So I dont feel you are getting what you shoud from your rifle if you are doing your part as a shooter.
Now before you scrap the barrel, change the scope. I have had 17's with no recoil at all shoot like crap from a cheap scope. It can be shocking what a good scope will do for a rifle. Also, watch out for parralax too.

I really dont think its an ammo issue, like I said Ive shot a lot of different stuff through it from winchester super x bulk ammo to CCI Green Tags, Federal Ultramatch, Fiocchi Biathalon Match and like 10 others and Im sure Im doing my part so I dont know what to think...
Ive sent a few emails to Volquartsen and havent gotten a reply yet, so I dont know if theyre just that busy or just not willing to give me there time. but to say Im a little frusterated is an understatement. Ive put almost $700 into this build on top of the stock 10/22 itself that I already had laying around and it doesnt shoot ANY better than it did as a 20-30yr old stock rifle

Re: 10/22 accuracy
I have done several 10/22 all had either a whistle pig barrel or a green mountain.
All like the american eagle ammo
Rim fires are picky animals some need a device under the barrel If I rember right the they are called bung tuners
You should be able to hold under a inch at 100 yars but your not going to get a one holer from a 10/22
Look to rimfire central.com lots of great 10/22 info there

Re: 10/22 accuracy
I built one two or three years ago that I hardly used, I've been selling it in parts lol . I had a Butler Creek ss fluted tri-port on it, and average group at 50 yds. (with CCI Green Tag) was 0.3-0.4" (for 5 shots), and 1-1.25" at 100 yds. (if there was no wind and I did my part (the factory trigger was horrible)! I had glass bedded the stock and put a foam pressure pad under the end of the barrel.
