Long range scope for long range muzzleloading

I have just ordered the new pro hunter 50. Cal muzzleloader. I am looking for a scope that i can use out to 300 yds. I would prefer turret knobs with a good zoom and a 50 mm objective. Main concern is, that i know some scopes cant take the recoil of a muzzleloader so maybe someone might know of a scope that can take it. Thanks

Re: Long range scope for long range muzzleloading

IMHO any decent centerfire scope will be fine on your ML. I have been using them for nearly 20 years with no issues.

I shoot a Bushnell Tactical. While it does not have the 50mm objective you seek -- I own both and the main difference is the 50mm is heavier -- what I like about it on a ML is the unusually large magnification range.

My smokeless ML is set up to shoot out to 500 yds....however, last year when my buck ran up to 30ish yds I was glad I had the low-end magnification to get on target easily!

I ended up putting a ultimate slam scope on. Works great

Re: Long range scope for long range muzzleloading

i have the nikon omega and LOVE it on a pro hunter 50 and shoot at 300 yards often, i also have the encore in the 45 with a cheap wal mart scope on it that i have also took dear out to 300. it depends alot on the shooter and what he feels comfortable with and how well he knows the riffle. but i will say i love the omega and it is very clear and it is a ML scope. i dont care for the BC but have learned to use it just like i would a mil-dot.

not to hijack this thread by any means because i too would like to here your opinions on a good scope for my encore 209/50 muzzle-loader. I feel that i would need great low- light more then a lot of power? also if any one would share just what load are you using to make a 300 or even a 500 yard shot from a muzzle-loader

I've taken blackpowder-sub guns about as far as they can go. Driving 325gr FTX with 135gr 777, 400 yd shots at game are acceptable. I've shot 500yds on targets but would hesitate to go that far on game. IMHO if you want 500 yds on game you'd better be shooting smokeless (which I do now). My smokeless gun wears a Bushnell Tactical with target turrets.
