Knight Disc Extreme and Blackhorn 209

Has anybody tried Black Horn 209 in a Knight Disc Extreme ? I just saw some literature
on this powder and wondered if anyone had tried it and what thier opinion was as far as accuracy , ease of cleaning etc...

Thanks in advance
Mike

Re: Knight Disc Extreme and Blackhorn 209

I have shot it in my elite I dont see any problem out of your extreme. I shot 90 grains of BH-209 with 250 grain bullet and black sabot and 209-A federal primers. You have to have a very hot 209 to ignite BH-209 but you can shoot 15-20 shots and never so much as to have to clean the rifle. I use to use 777 and clean between shots So with the BH-209 when I am sighting in for hunting I clean the rifle and shoot again and make any fine tuning neccesay as my 1st shot will be from a clean barrel, besides if you sight your rifle in and dont clean it it will surely corrode Residue from Bh-209 is very corrosive and will attract moisture and rush even after a short matter of time. The older BH-209 said cleaning after shooting was not necessary but they meant no cleaning after each shot The newer cans they changed that. Good Luck. Lou

mkg, I also shoot a Knight Disc Elite w/BH209. I'm shooting 110 grains with a 195 gr. Dead Center bullet from prbullet. I do not swab between shots, regardless of how many shots fired. Loads as easy from 2-50 shots. Cleans up with Hoppes #9 or any good bore cleaner. I have found that the best primers to use are the CCI magnum 209's. Very reliable, no hesitation beween primer firing & ignition and no hang fires.

Re: Knight Disc Extreme and Blackhorn 209

I use the black horn 209 in my encore, I disagree about the need to clean between shots, my bore is super tight, and if no other reason, I clean clean between shots, as when i hunt, I hunt out of a clean bore, so I like to shoot all shots as if i was hunting, I do however fire a 209 primer first before all shots to scrub the bore a little,

things I have noticed with BH209, its hotter than all pellets I have shot, a 100 grain of BH209, and 100 grains(2 pellets) of regular 777, or pryodex, my gun shoot 5 inches higher and a lot more recoil!, have not checked the speed difference, but seat of pants feeling is huge!

the nicest thing about the 209 to regular black powder is almost ZERO smoke cloud, I can shoot and see what I shot at like a regular rifle!

Dis likes, My gun is picky, and the BH209 produces the best groups, BUt if i shoot it in warm weather, say 60+ degrees, and then at 30 degrees it shoot differently, it will not same load, group in warm weather
I don't know why, it just won't!

I don't know how crossive it is, I clean after shooting it, but it doesn't stink like regular black powder thats for sure, my breech pluh cleans fast and easy, and never sticks.

I do recommend the stuff, just DO NOT SHOOT OVER 150 GRAINS, its not made to be shot at higher loads, NO 150 grain charges

and last, contact blackhorn before you use in your gun, many inline they recommend you do not use it it, plus they have tons of good reliable info on speeds and down range energy with many loads in many rifles lots of good help!

Re: Knight Disc Extreme and Blackhorn 209

When you are talking 150gr of Bh209 equal 173 gr.of Pyrodex Rs or Select.
With Bh209 and T-7 you should use a maximum of 120gr.for safety.

Re: Knight Disc Extreme and Blackhorn 209

Moose1 is correct. DO NOT use 150 gr of BH209. I have gone up to 125 gr by volume of BH209 and while it shot great, the primers were taking a serious beating. The speed and recoil way were up there. Below are the speeds and you can see where the velocity delta is increasing in a fairly linear trend until the 125 gr charge, where it takes a big spike. This is showing excessive pressure and should not be used.

.45 caliber Disc Elite
200 gr SST Knight Brown Sabot
56 4257' elevation Baro Pressure 25.5
Winchester 209 Primer
Blackhorn 209 Powder

Code:
Charge Shot 1 Shot 2 Shot 3 Avg Vel Velocity Delta
100 2307 2300 2305 2304 Baseline
105 2324 2321 2325 2323 19
110 2345 2350 2345 2347 23
115 2365 2369 2368 2367 21
120 2390 2395 2386 2390 23
125 2460 2460 2469 2463 73
