What make and model to buy ???

I have been having this urge to have a .243 in a varmint rig. I already have a T/C Contender in a 17HMR (Bullberry) and .223 (MGM) carbine. I also have a Remington VS in .308 too. I think the .243 would complete the whole varmint package. So what I am looking for here is recommendations on what make and model to look at. I have listed a few other guidelines and questions below.

1.) I am left handed, so I will need a left handed bolt.

2.) Price not to exceed $750 for the gun.

3.) Buy new or used.

4.) Buy used and rebarrel.

Tell me what you guys think I need.

Jim

Savage Model: 16 FLHSS. No heavy barrels, that caliber, in their lineup with a bolt on the wrong side. Out of the box accuracy is difficult to beat.

Thanks for the reply MrMasjestic. I like the stainless and I agree about their accuracy out of the box. I am curious about you comment about no heavy barrel. What's your reason for that ?

I was just stating that they don't make a heavy barrel with your requirements.

You might be able to call the factory and have a Mod16 fitted with a heavy barrel. They do take custom orders for stuff like that. From what I understand it doesn't cost that much more.

Re: What make and model to buy ???

Thanks liltank.

I think I have decided on the Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .243. It's not a special order from the factory. So the delivery time shouldn't be to long. I have not heard a lot of good things about the stock on them. So I will probably replace it with a HS Precision stock if I don't like it. I was able to find a dealer that would sell me one for $565. Not a bad price for a varmint rifle.
