Slow 22.250 or fast 223

What would you guys choose a 223 with 1-9 twist or a 22.250 with 1-14 twist. The gun will be used for groundhogs and crows at long range and coyotes out to 400.

At 300 to 400 yards the 223 will do what you want and give you better barrel life.

The 223 is much cheaper to shoot and with so many types of ammo you can choose eather
hollow points, Full metal jackets (for less pelt Damage) and even armor piercing for extra
tough game (Like Hogs).

I love my 22/250 but for lots of shooting the 223 is the cats meow.

I also built a 223 AI and it is great and you can still use the Factory ammo in it with
great accuracy.

I'd have to agree’…, the .22 250 is a very fine cartridge, but I think my pick would be {and is} the .223 Rem with a 1-8 twist' using bullets from 73gr's to 80gr's specially in the right barrel length; it can punish targets easily out to 900 yards plus yards on a good day.

I would suggest the 22-250 J.E customs comments were right on but for shooting crows the 223 just dosent provide the black feather cloud that the 22-250 can. Now if you really want to punish the *igger chickens then go with the 22-250AI and push the 50 grain Vmax's at 4000 fps.

Will the 22.250 kill as good at longer ranges with the 1-14 twist and lighter bullet?

For what you consider long range 400 yards. Most guy's find the .22 cal 1-14 twist barrels are pretty much lead launcher's for the 50gr and lighter varmint bullets... which shoot very flat and fast, however they also bleed off velocity and loose energy very fast...
As was said; if you want the best of both worlds try a .22 250 using a 1-9 to 1-8 twist, and shoot bullets in the 65gr to 80gr weight range.
400 yards.
.22 250 Rem
50gr. MV 3950 fps at 400 yards 2322 fps with 598 fpe 16.5" of drop
80gr. MV 3150 fps at 400 yards 2261 fps with 908 fpe 23.0" of drop
Respectively based on barrel length.

So if your looking at tipping over Yotes at {real} longrange I'd think the 80gr bullets at top end of their velocity is the way to go... in either the .22 250 Rem or the .223 Rem. Groundhogs and crows won't be able to tell the difference at 400 yards and under... however past 400 yards you will.
Again just my .02
