This is the largest prairie dog I have shot to date. Well over 13" long (not counting tail).
Savage long action, single shot, 28.5" 1:12 twist 1.250 straight shank barrel, Federal brass, 27.0 gr Benchmark, 55 gr VMax, & CCI 450 primer.....distance of 345 yards.
We have had a LOT of rain this year. To date, have only been on four short PD safaris. In fact, it rained tonight, two nights ago, and four nights ago....in AUGUST!!!!
Believe it or not, I have only turned my sprinklers on 4 times this year....and I still have to cut at least once a week.
Dang. I remember growing up out by Oshkosh where we used to joke about the rain gauges being graduated in 100ths of an inch for a reason. Other places might say "We got a little over 3/4 inch of rain last night". We'd say "Got 87 hundredths yesterday!"
Good to hear you're getting some rain. Last time I talked to family out that way (been a while) things were pretty dusty for a spell.
Back to the trophy 'dog... is he as fat as those pot-bellied little porkers they had mounted in Cabela's?
Thats a monster!!! I thought the dogs in SE Montana where big but aint never sean one that big anywhere!
Looks like you are getting some of the rain the rest of us are getting, we where out yesterday doggin and still cant believe all the green yet as it usualy browns up in late June around here.
That dog is all of twice the size of the little devils around these parts, even with all the rain and extra grub they are not gettin any bigger.
