Re: looking for a long range 6mm ackley load

Berger only makes 3 VLD bullets for the 1/10 twist 6mm barrels and they vary from target, varmit and hunting. All Bullets | Berger Bullets

I build 6RemAI years ago and used 95gr Nosler partition for antelope 46gr/IMR-4350 @ 3393fps was nothing LR under 500yd shots and it was on LA also had 1/10 twist barrel.

This is one of my on going project picture of 243AI going to be my walk around antelope rifle

I've been running 87gr Hornady in the mid 3400fps got a 1/10 twist barrel haven't got it pass 300yds yet and I have few more bullets to try. If it was me I'd pick highest BC and see what that does then run ballistic tables out to 1k see if it's something you like.

Well good luck

Re: looking for a long range 6mm ackley load

thanks for the info the 87gr vld hunting bullet will still have over 1400 fps at 1000yds if i get it doing 3300fps or better with 23 to 25 moa drop at a 1000yds and for a hunting load i run the 80gr barnes ttsx at alittle over 3500fps and that thing rocks for deer and antelope this was my first year with it and i got 8 deer 1 antelope with it and im in love

Re: looking for a long range 6mm ackley load

I run a stout load of H4831sc in my 6mmai with 87gr Vmax with MV of ~3250 fps. That leaves me with just under 1300 fps @ 1000 yards with 25.75 MOA drop zeroed at 200 yds! Mine is a 28" 1-8 twist, could probably up the charge by another grain to gain some velocity. Have to do some more testing once all this snow melts up here in Manitoba...

I've only stretched this load out to 800 yds, but it's super accurate with a few groups around 3/4 MOA!

Good luck on your search and good
