Great shooting and nice rig. When you have it rebarrelled you will be starting over on load development - have fun with that. Hopefully you ordered a longer and fatter barrel. That should increase both velocity and accuracy. In turn that gives you longer range capabilities.

To your question on using a 7-08 at 700-1000 yard shots on elk - don't do it. In order to shoot 1k at elk, you need to be in the 300RUM class of cartridge.
