223 (8" twist) or 22-250 (14" twist)

223 with a 8" twist vs. 22-250 with a 14 inch twist. Looking for maximum range with effective terminal velocity. Is this pretty much a wash since the 223 can shoot a heavier bullet. Or would you just use a 55 grain for both where the 22-250 would beat the 223.

Target is eastern woodchucks.

If your 22-250 will stabilize a 53gr vmax, that will reach 1k. with a 1 in 14 twist I doubt it'll stabilize but you never know my 22-250 has a 1in 14 twist and it does stabilize them.

Thanks Joe. So I guess if I can stabilize the 55 grain I would be better off with the 22-250.

I am now thinking of going the 243 route, 10" twist.

The 243 with a 9 1/8" twist or 10 twist is excellent for varmints of all descriptions and certainly enough for most deer...

I like to take BOTH a 223 and a 243 when varminting and use the 223 for the close shots and the 243 for the longer shots. You'll need to cool the barrel of the 243 a lot more than the 223 barrel or you'll cook it pretty quickly.
