I've seen them do that to a mama cow as she was giving birth.

I was taught at a young age, to shoot on site.

Nah, you weren't wrong. Those pics have been cross posted on several forums. There is quite a discussion on Sniper's Hide. FWIW, the Wyoming Game and Fish, USDA, etc. have studied this to death (no pun intended). Coyote predation varies from region to region. In Wyoming, coyotes pose no meaningful predation threat to healthy, mature deer on open ground. As far as the trail cam pics, I really wonder if the deer was "healthy" to begin with. No way to know. Oh, and I do kill coyotes at every opportunity and I make a lot of opportunities.

Dogs are pack hunters.. They will take turns,One will put the pressure on wall the other lopes along, then switch when the lead dog tires. After a while the deer gets tired and turns to fight. Then is quickly out numbered.

Just so happen the cam was in the right place at the right time

Re: why we hunt coyotes

I have witnessed coyotes killing many full grown healthy deer. This is not a rare thing in my area. During January, February, and March I think they make up nearly 100% of the coyotes diet. We have lost 75% of our deer herd over the last 8 years partially due to poor game laws allowing way to many does to be harvested. Our dnr has been refusing to accept the herd numbers for too long, but now they have to admit it. What angers me is the fact that during deer season the woods are full of hunters but only 10% of them ever go coyote hunting. Wealthy city people have bought up too much of the wooded land to hunt deer. Now the locals can no longer deer hunt on that property, but the locals are the only ones trying to control the coyotes.
