summer coyote hunting

i would like some comments on summer hunting , and if anyone else, hunts in the summer , i know most only hunt when pelts are prime, but thats not ourreason to kill coyotes , they do a lot of damage here on the ranch, we dont hunt for sport, but it can get pretty sporty some times.have you got any hints that will help me out?

a lot of people miss out on some of the best hunting of the year. I love the summer time. nights are shorter, which means more daytime hours there exposed to fill there bellies. Don't know where your at & what kind of critters you have around, but here in kentucky a coyote & fox fight gets a lot of them killed through the summer & early fall. distress k-9 is also another good one. try to sound like an adult dog in a lot of pain. they're always curious as to who's in the neighborhood.

Summer is the best time to thin out the coyotes -about the end of May you can go out at night [late] and use a friendly sounding howl -the young coyotes at the den will often times howl back -giving away the den location.
Pup in distress works good through Thanksgiving.
Hunting them at night is much more productive.
Find a trapper in your area if you really need to thin them out or do it yourself.

thank you for the info, i hunt all i can but am not well set up to night hunt, but will be soon , have gotten some good info form this site, on night hunting, and am building a night rig now,the coyotes are doing a great deal of damage to our stock and wild life, in the last 2 months my boy and i have killed over 100 coyotes and havent killed a skinny or poor one yet, their eating real good here.

Wow 100 coyotes ..

Take a look at the lightforce lights they are very nice -if you hunt mostly w/ your son get a handheld model.
You can get lower powered bulbs to extend the burn time -forget the 1 million 3 million candlepower stuff -way too bright and will scare predators away even w/a colored lens.

Stay on stand longer when night hunting -coyotes can't/don't run wide open to the caller -it's dark.
With that many coyotes around i'd get myself a couple three dozen snares and find some of their travel routes -look for places where they go under fences -deadly snaring spot !
