Re: Soldier's Rifle Quest

As far as cleaning the AR, I tried the whole let it run and lube and sure enough, in the moment of need, my rifle didn't fire. It wouldn't lock fully because of the carbon build up in the bolt carrier. My hunting partner had the same situation, we crawled up on two coyotes and click...nothing. He tried clearing and click. His was the star chamber, while very accurate the chamber holds a lot of carbon. Both of these rifles were quality rifles, mine was a Rock River and his a Bushmaster M4. I'm not knocking you for choosing one, not at all, I am just getting away from them.

As for the BDC, I got on Nikon's website and launched the SpotOn program, put my ballistic information in and presto. I usually do turrets but I'm going to give the BDC a try.

The reason I'm going with a semi is solely for fun. Yeah, I could get a super accurate bolt action that can reach out 600yds, but I plan on shooting 300yds max. My dad shoots a bolt that I gave him in .223 and he asks me the same question, lol.

I hope this lets you inside my brain a little bit. I will get you updates when I get home and let you all know how the shooting goes.

Well I dont know what you mean by star chamber. I would not consider thouse guns qualty. What ammo were you guys using and how many rounds had you fired before the malfunctions.

You make sure and post pics of that rifle when you get back

Re: Soldier's Rifle Quest

SB7, I'm in BAF as well...sort of.

I don't remember the ammo to be honest. I can't give you a number on my buddy's BM, but my Rock River had 200-300 through it. The star chamber is the part of the rifle where the bolt locks into. You know, the spot where the Drill Sergeant sticks his pinky and pull it out with carbon on it and says "Its not clean, keep cleaning". That part.

I will absolutely put pics of the rifle up...I want to find someone that can paint it. Zero painting talent here. LOL.

LOL, I must just be too untalented. I bought a wal-mart fakey airsoft and tried to paint it like twenty times to no avail. Thing must of weighed 10lbs by the time I finally gave up.

Re: Soldier's Rifle Quest

I won't remark on the choice of a Mini, that's your business and as long as it goes bang, who cares? I will say from experience, hoever, that the Fiocchi .223 ammo is ant-shaving accurate. I tried their 52 gr. V-Max loading (if memory serves) in my CZ 527, and I gave up trying to find a handload more accurate and just bought a pallet of that stuff instead. haha. God speed.
