Re: Which option, would you choose?
Both are excellent choices, I've killed many many yotes with my 243win and 75gr hp from hornady. The longest was 407yd drt. I hunt mostly in KY and your range is similar to mine with long shots few and far between. I've also killed several with 55gr hp out of my .223rem ar. Both of which are extremely fur friendly unless i make a frontal shot and hit the collar bone. I seldom call in doubles as well but on the few i have i wished I'd had the ar, I can work a bolt as fast as anyone but not having to break my cheek weld, and being able to keep looking through the scope is a great help on follow up shots. I hunt mostly wood breaks and field edges and you don't get too many chances if you miss in my neck of the woods...
I don't hand load just yet I'm currently piecing my set-up together to start. I haven't experienced failures to feed with any of the loads i shoot in the ar. I've tried several and they all group very well out of my yankee hill with a 1/9 twist. It seems to like the 55gr v-max or federal 55gr ballistic tip the best, i've shot a few heavier bullets as well the 75gr hp just don't group quite like the lighter one... By the way all my groups with the ar are one ragged hole @100yd and my groups with those loads and my ruger77 are 1/4-1/2 moa when i do my part
