Has coyote hunting sucked for anyone else in January???

Of the coyotes I have seen 50 percent have been on a private ranch I hunt. I also think they darn well know when their number is up. The other day I rode by an elk that the wolves killed and a coyote sat there 100 yards from me, as still as a coyote bush and let me keep on riding by.
On the wolf hunting, hmm I just can not seem to hit em. One of my employees and several friends have put their tag on a wolf. My tag seems to like my pocket. I have been out about 75 percent of everyday since November 1. That is a bunch of horse miles!
I think that the coyotes are less intimidated by a horse and rider and often wonder if my white coat I wear helps. These coyotes around these parts see or live around horses all the time.

Its been tough around here in Missouri....been calling a few Coyotes in close but they usually hang up out of range in the thick cover or nearby Property we can't Hunt on.You don't know what dry is.....we've been Hunting pretty hard and haven't scored on a Coyote yet in several months! :(

We did miss a Bobcat back in Jan that ran up on my Calling Partner and he missed it and I messed up and had my safety on and messed up a good shot on another Bobcat a few days later because I switched out Rifles and the safety was opposite on my CZ .204 Rifle...my fault all the way!


Still its been very tough here in Southeast Missouri...another Friend of mine called in a nice Coyote the last weekend of Jan also and I had it in my .223 sights...just about shot and my Friend turned and shot with his 12 gauge shotgun and missed!

We're going to hit a few new Properties and try a few different things to change it up a bit....half the fun is just getting out enjoying the Outdoors!

I agree, it's always fun to get out in the hills and have some quality time with a rifle. It's just always that much better when you get to shoot the rifle. I tried one last hunt last week with no success so I've hung it up for coyote hunting this winter. Congrats to all of you who can call them in even when the going gets tough. I've got some learning to do.

On the bright side I shot my first rockchuck of the season yesterday. Time to get geared up for rockchuck season!

Since last Friday I have called in 7 coyotes while wolf hunting. I swear folks, try wolf hunting, but with the intent to kill coyotes, it will help! Here is two I called in while with my wife and two rug rats on a family wolf hunting adventure

We got some new snow so I decided to give the coyote hunting one last try (famous last words) for the season. Still no coyotes but I did call in five mule deer. Never done that before. They came in just like a coyote, circling downwind. Nice to know the fawn bleats sound realistic!
