25-06 coyote

Was headed out to the range this morning when I noticed a dog standing out in a cut wheat field about 6 am. Had my 25-06 behind the seat so I knew he was in BIG trouble. He was about 150-200 yards out and appeared to be mousing. As soon as I started to slow down he stopped what he was doing and was locked on me. In the meantime I was trying to steer the truck, get my gun up front, take the scope caps off, and by the time I got the truck stopped, that little sucker took off hauling the mail. He was quartering away so I knew I didn't have to lead him that much with the 100g NBT going 3500fps. I put it about 1ft, maybe 1.5 feet ahead of his shoulder and let the 100g NBT do the rest of the work. At the crack of the shot, all I saw was a big pile of dust. NICE!! He did a few rolls and was done for. The 100g nbt at 3500fps is not very fur friendly, lol. Sorry no pics, I was already late for shooting.

Re: 25-06 coyote

I've tried everything from IMR-4895-Retumbo. Just depends what weight bullet I'm trying out.

I recently started playing with Retumbo and its just awesome. 3500fps w/100g NBT and 1/2MOA from a 24" bbl 25-06 is no slouch. It also shoots the 115g VLD at 3275fps as well as 1/4-1/2 MOA.

I have burned far more RL-22 in my 25's then anything though.

My favorite powders are probly RL-19/IMR4350/4831 for the lightweights (under 100g), and RL-22 and Retumbo for 100g-125g bullets.

I've tried at least 15 powders over the years out of several 25's and not 1 of them was ever picky. I just like to find different combos that work, and I"ve got about 20+ pages of my own data in a 3 ring binder that I've saved over 10 years.

If you need any specific data, let me know. I might be able to help you out or point you in the right direction.

That has been my experience exactly. Even though the fur market is not very good now, i like to skin the really good ones i get and make rugs out of them. The only one i have ever shot with the 2506 that was worth skinning was a big male dog that i caught going straight away from me once.....gave him the ole texas heart shot with a 117 gr nosler......couldnt even find a hole in his hide! bullet was longed in the vertabrea in his neck.... Re: 25-06 coyote

Hey Remingtonman how much RL-22 do you use with the 115g VLD's? I just got a can of RL-22 and a box of VLD's for my 25-06.

Re: 25-06 coyote

Yup - I like a .25-06 for a multi-purpose rock chuck, coyote & mule deer rifle myself!

Congrats on another coyote! Seems those thing know what's about to happen when one of our trucks slows down out on the road...
