117 SST too much for Coyotes?

I have a .25-06 and wondering if 117 Hornady SST is too big for coyotes. My gun seems to shoot well with these. The smallest I can get locally is 100 grain rem core lokt, and my gun didn't like those that much. Not interested in minimizing pelt damage, just effectively killing my target. I can order something else, just these are on sale for $25

Tikkamike's signature says it best, "Anything less than overkill is underachievement." You will have an absolute riot blasting song dogs with those bullets since you're not concerned about pelt damage. If you ever decide to save the pelts you'll find you probably need to change bullets but until then it's a lot more fun to put big old holes in them.

There is no wrong bullet or cartridge for coyotes. The last one I killed about a week ago was at 508 yards with a 300 Win Mag shooting a 190 gr. Berger VLD. Coyote pelts have never brought anything here in TN. With the price of fur now you can't give them away. Use whatever you can hit them with the best.

Re: 117 SST too much for Coyotes?

I shot the 115 gr bergers last year at yote out of my .257 AI at 3100 fps, from 20 yds to 850 yds. If i hit shoulders the coyote was very very dead and you could put a baseball through it. no matter the distance

If i hit behind a shoulder they would spin a few times. Damage was not to bad nothing a needle and thread could not fix.

I have almost always used my deer loads for coyotes in my bolt actions. 117 SST in my 25wssm has put down several deer and coyotes.

Nice bullet, for the price, very hard to beat.

You will probably see a lot of pelt damage with that load. Just make head shots and cut the hide behind the ears. You still get the best part of the fur. The heads are a pain to skin anyhow.
