Hi,

Great story. I curious what culling of the Red Stag in that area entails.

Hicks,
All ground hunters in this area are encouraged to kill any Red deer type animals they see as they are interbreeding with the Wapiti and ruining the herd. The ground hunters also pay $100 each to hunt there in the bugle and this goes to fund helicopter search and destroy during the winter months. They fly around the Wapiti area and shoot the Red type animals out of the helicopter as its the most efficient way of removing them. The are Red deer all over NZ so we are trying to keep the Wapiti area of Fiordland for the Wapiti.
Hope this makes sense.
Greg

Big Sika Stag

Greg,
I heard you got a huge sika stag recently. What rig were you using i. e. projectile, powder and range.

We've been hanging out for details of Greg's sika on a NZ hunting forum but will probably have to wait for the next edition of his magazine (NZ Hunter). Apparently it was shot at quite short range........................

Hi Greg, I am thinking of heading to the Troite Valley chasing Tahr. Can you recommend any special rig. A mate has a Sendero with a MK4 scope but I think it may be too heavy to lug around.
