Re: short barrel help

I have used a 6.5x284 and a 7wsm. I really like my 7wsm, its built on a savage precision target action. I have not shot anything over the 168 grain bullets yet, I like what they do for me... I'm pushing a 168 grain bullet a little over 2800 with great accuracy. Hopefully in about a month I can start working up a load with the 162 amax and see how they shoot.

Here is a shot of my 17.75" 7wsm

Re: short barrel help

Probably the 260 Rem using Lapua brass from the first four.
I have four 6.5-284's (2- in 15" and 2 in 18 inch barrels)-That would be my preference for paper out to 1K.
I was at a match last weekend and I shot a 5-shot group for record score at 1000 yards with a 15" 6.5-284 using the 130 grain Berger that measured 5.25".
If you were looking at elk or you wanted to push the deer hunting to 1000 then I would lean toward the 7mm SAUM or the 7mm WSM.
