New hornady manual and the 460 S&W

Shooting 240gr Sierra out of my 460. Max loads is listed at 49.5 of H110 . My gun maxed out at ( Difficult extraction )48grs. I'm going to drop that charge 2 or 3 grs. Incredible the muzzle blast of that gun,but I love it. Next purchase will be a scope .

Now you know why they list starting loads and tell you to start there and work up. Each firearm is different. When working up loads for my 264 Win. Mag rifle I ran into ejector marks on the case and hard lift on the bolt 1 grain below the max load suggested with Retumbo and 130 gr Accubonds.

I ran those cases in my sizing die and then loaded them and they won't fit in the chambers ! Well at least at the base of case. So it must mean their not responding to the sizing die. I guess these cases are ruined ?

+1! Not to mention highlighted in red - INDICATES MAXIMUM LOAD -USE WITH CAUTION.

The same is also true for type of bullet with the same weight. The 49.5gr of H110 is for 240gr XTP Mag and might have significant difference from the 240gr Sierra.

Re: New hornady manual and the 460 S&W

I show 48.5 gr of h110 as max load for the 240 ball. That's directly from hodgdon. data.hodgdon.com you should always use only the data for the exact ball for the powder. Different manufactures of ball will require different loads for the same type of powder. You can have very dangerous results if you are not following what the ball calls for in terms of powder type.
