New Encore barrel question
I have a Encore (12")in 454 Casull that I cant shoot very well because of the massive recoil. I was considering a 12" or even a 14" .357 Maximum. From what I can find on the net it is very close to 44mag when hand loaded. Factory ammo is not an issue. I already have 2 other .357mags so I am set up for reloading. Give me some feedback, good or bad on my thoughts....Jim

Re: New Encore barrel question
I think the Max would be an excellent choice. The one I have shot is extremely accurate.

Re: New Encore barrel question
Do you have the T/C custom shop version? I was thinking about a fluted 12" heavy bbl version. I don't think I will need the muzzle brake. I understand that there are some gunsmiths that cut a little tighter throat on them. It is supposed to help accuracy. I was planning on shooting some 357mags in it as well as some 38's when plinking around. That is on of the advantages of the round to me. I am not the only one that will shoot it. My wife and kid like to shoot as well. As you might guess I am the ONLY one who can shoot the 454.....Jim

Re: New Encore barrel question
The Max I was shooting wasn't mine. I was shooting a steel gong at 330 yards. Hitting it was easy off the bench with a 3-12 Burris W/BP.

Re: New Encore barrel question
Use the 454 barrel but shoot 45lc in it I had a 15" TC barrel for my Encore for years. About all I used 454Casull loads for was hunting bears over bait and messing with people who thought they could handle recoil
A stiff 45lc load is nuthin to sneeze @ and is a whole cheaper and fun to shoot than full house Casull loads.

I think that would be cheaper than any other options. Can I use full length 454 brass and just load it to 45LC specs? Will that leave too much empty space in the case and cause pressure problems?

Re: New Encore barrel question
How about just using your 45LC brass and loading it down?
