I have about 100 Winchester brass for my 300 Win Mag and about half of them have a pressed pattern near the lip or top end of the neck which makes for a lot of chatter when chamfering and cleaning up the top. Does anyone know why this is on the brass or if I can trim it off to get to the clean brass?? This pattern is about 1mm in height and nearly touching the top edge. I am asking this question from the top of my head without measuring anything. Sorry for the lack of technical terminology or accurate measures for this question.

If you trim it off your cases will be too short. That is their new style of crimping. I think they do it to deter reloading.

    Hawken 11

300 win have short necks to begin with but if it
bothers you trim them but try to keep at least
1 caliber in length (.308 min length)

These marks are from crimping and can be reloaded
    as is.

So if you trim it off and its less than one caliber
you can ether remove .001 to .002 from the expander
plug (this makes the brass grip better)or use bullets
    with a cannelure and crimp.

So you decide which way , but use it.
