I just got done working up one that I'm pretty tickled with.
168gr Matrix VLD
Rem 9 1/2M Primer
Seated 0.020" off the lands
It has done 1/2" at 100 repeatedly before finding my seating depth with 2 different primers and 1/2" at 200 the other 2 times, now it's time to start taking it out father, see what it can really do
A very very good mid range load for Elk is 175gr partition, 62.5gr RL22 and a CCI250
150gr Nosler BT
super accurate, but a bit to destructive on game for me
162gr SST and RL22 (I can't remember my charge for the life of me, can't find that old note book either) It was accurate as all get out too and very predictable.
Keep in mind the animals we shoot for food and display are not bullet proof. Contrary to popular belief, they bleed and die just like they did a hundred years ago. Being competent with a given rifle is far more important than impressive ballistics and poor shootability. High velocity misses never put a steak in the freezer.
