Re: What is an 22 243

Guys I am lost Her .

if an 22 243 is an 243 necked down to an 22 bullet .

what is an 22 250 ?

If you start with an 308 case . then you neck it down to an 6 mm bullet that is an 243 .

If you shart with an 308 case an you neck it down to an 7 mm bullet it is an 7 mm 08 .

If you start with an 308 case an neck it down to an 22 bullett it is an 22 250 .

That is the way I under stand it .

So what is an 22 243 ?
or is it an 22 250

Redbone .

    Nope...

A .22-250 is the "250 Savage" necked down to 22... NOT the 308 or 243 necked down.

The "250 Savage" is a smaller cartridge, originally designed to be used in the Savage M-99 lever gun.

I sorta agree with Lerch and Wildcat, i.e. I slightly prefer the 243AI over my other big cartridge varmint rifles (22-243 Middlested, 220 Rocket, 22-250AI)...even for PDs.

I concur, go 6mm... or go home. No need for a .22 Centerfire in my world. I guess if I lived somwhere where there were massive PD towns I would feel differently... but then it would be a .223 or .17 of some sort for volume shooting. ~JT

Re: What is an 22 243

Dont rule the 22 cals out look ate the b.c for the 224 80 grain a-max at least .475 at 3600 fps compare wind drift and and drop and theres not too much that will run much better for groundhogs. I believe every cartidge has its place .The 80 grain .224s carry near the b.c of 6mm cartidges faster for less weight. I would not rule out a 22-243. Excellent brass 243 laupa, easy reloading, neck down. And more than adequate for deer sized game out to 500 yards. I love 6mms,25.7mm,30, 338's as much as the next guy. But if I were to have one rifle for all my hunting needs it would be my 22-243 ackley with 80- a-max in a 30 inch 8 twist tube. there are many great cartidges out there but dont over look the fast twist .224's
