I think, but I am not sure that US869 is the same powder as TCCI's T-5020. T-5020 is the powder for the 30-378 and 180 bullets. US869 really shines with heavy bullets for caliber applications. It is supposed to be temperature insensitive but I have not tested it in the cold yet. I use it in my 7MM STW and it performs great. And yes it is a ball powder. I plan on trying it in my 338 Lapua after I finish testing H1000 and Retumbo.

In my 300 RUM I use 101.1 gr of US869 under a 210 gr Berger. Velocity is just shy of 3,200 ft/sec with lower pressure indications than H1000 or Retumbo in my rifle.

Accuracy is sub .5 moa at 200yds.

I'm glad this thread got revived. I recently switched to 869 in my 300 rum, I was seeing pressure signs before I got to the velocity that I thought I should be getting. My load is almost the same as yours varmint hunter, it's 101.5 gr and fed 215 primer 210gr smk, velocity is 3175 with es in single digits. It has no pressure signs at all after first firing the primer pockets were as tight as the virgin brass. Shoots a hair over 1/2" at 250 yds. I can't wait to stretch it out a little. Right now all I've got is 250 there is a range not far from here that has 600 but I'm not a member yet so that's on my to do list here in the next couple of weeks.

I didn't have great results in my RUM with 869 but T-870 from Thunderbird Cartridge co. in Az. worked very well (same as old H-870). This gave me the best velocity of "anything" tested.......Rich

When ambient temperatures reach about 90 degrees it will be affected. But then so will most powders.
