Re: tikka 300 wsm reloading

My Tikka 300 WSM likes the Nosler Accubond 180 gr, CCI 250 primer, 64 gr of H4350, 2.90 OAL, 2950 fps across the chrony. This load is near max per the book so start at 58 gr and work the load up. It also likes the Sierra Gameking 180 gr but I prefer the Accubond for elk and bear. Both bullets shoot sub-MOA as long as I do my part.

Re: tikka 300 wsm reloading

300wsm info

Using the Barnes load Data the 180gn TTX shot very well with RE19 Barnes use to list 69.5 gn as a MAX,,, Very good accuracy and speed was excellent. Remember the bearing surface is less with the raised grooves.. dont try this load with normal 180gn pills.

H4350 was always a lot slower than RE19 ...in my testing ..

I shoot a 68gn load of RE19 behind a 180gn SST in a howa 300wsm and the load is very accurate under1/2 moa..This load works well in nearly all 300wsms I have loaded for and owned. I have found the SST a great economical and effective projie... (Even on our sambar which are Elk sized and tough)

RE 17 effective is the new kid on the block and this what I am going to use in my new A bolt 325wsm... Early days yet as I awaiting a trigger spring, limbsaver etc before I fire it. They are a bargain here at the moment and possibly one of the most under rated Sambar calibres IMO/ No its not a 338 WM/// but good enough in a short action.

Alliant web site has some good data readily available .Velocities are pretty spot on too unlike the ADI manual using 2209 ala H 4350.

I use re 19 as I stocked up way before the release of RE17...

Re: tikka 300 wsm reloading

I have worked up loads for my Tikka 300 WSM with 110gr, 150gr, 180gr and 200gr bullets all with H4350. PM me if you're interested in the specifics.

I shoot Accubond in my 7mm WSM. I'm giving my 7mm to my son, and I'm going to buy the Tikka 300 WSM. I would love your specs. Please share. Thanks! BTW, first time to this site tonight...one of the best online. Great info!

Also, can you comment on whether you like the 180gr or 200gr better for Elk?

Re: tikka 300 wsm reloading

My Tikka likes hot loads but it as a lot of freebore so I don't see pressure signs at published max. These loads are safe in my rifle but are near or above max so start 10% below and work your way up.

Sierra 110 gr Varminter, 74.9 gr H4350, CCI 250 primer, 2.72 OAL, Win brass, 3520 fps, 1" @ 100 yds (over published max, lightly compressed)

Nosler 150 gr Accubond, 66.5 gr H4350, CCI 250 primer, 2.90 OAL, Win brass, 3150 fps, .90" @ 100 yds

Nosler 180 gr Accubond, 64.0 gr H4350, CCI 250 primer, 2.90 OAL, Win brass, 2950 fps, .80" @ 100 yds

Sierra 180 gr Gameking, 63.5 gr IMR4350, CCI 250 primer, 2.86 OAL, Win brass, 2925 fps, .90" @ 100 yds

Nosler 180 gr E-tip, 67.5 gr Reloder 22, CCI 250 primer, 2.90 OAL, Nosler brass, 2725 fps, .875" @ 100 yds (medium compressed)

Sierra 180 gr Matchking, 67.5 gr RL-17, CCI 250 primer, 2.90 OAL, Win brass, 3030 FPS, .750" @ 100 yds.

Sierra 180 gr Matchking, 68.5 gr RL-22, CCI 250 primer, 2.90 OAL, Nosler brass, 2835 FPS, .630" @ 100 yds

Nosler 200 gr Accubond, 62.0 gr H4350, CCI 250 primer, 2.90 OAL, FC brass, 2700 FPS, 1.25" @ 100 yards

The 200 gr Accubond load has never been used for hunting as I was never able to take it past 2700 FPS, started to show some pressure signs (bolt face swirl marks on the primer) and not all that accurate.

These were all 5-shot groups. With a 1 in 11 twist I was surprised the 110s shot as good as they did. I've put about 500 rounds down the tube but so far it really seems to like the 180s best. I used the 180 Accubond load for an elk hunt in 2009 and I use the 150 Accubond load for whitetails and muleys. Both loads are devastating. I use the 180 gr Matchking RL-22 load for showing off at the range.

Good luck,
Bruce
