Oops, it was late, but on the other hand a 338x378 is the only option that'll hold that much powder. Sorry, I will post after I get some sleep next time.

Re: RL33 strikes again!

That's what I was guessing, from when you said it was a Weatherby, and that you used 300gr Sierras. The .338-378 Wby is a nasty one. I wouldn't mind having a .30-378 Wby someday, if I could afford to feed it with powder.

Re: RL33 strikes again!

I can take it to 116grns, 3045 ish fps, but accuracy sucks, but it is screaming for a 26" barrel and the load I'm using is pretty easy on the $3.00 a pc cases. A replacement barrel at 30" with only .230" freebore and my hybrid throat should get me over 3200fps with 300gr Bergers and about 118 grns of RL33, but only after I cook the factory barrel

I think a custom throated 30x378 with a 30" barrel would be a monster long range dozer with 230 Hybrids.

Re: RL33 strikes again!

You oughtta look into the .300 Ackley...I just finished building one myself. It is a monster with the 210 VLD's (pictured). You simply fire-form a case by shooting .300 Wby brass in it. And being a belted magnum, the belt headspaces, so the brass moves forward and forms perfectly, and you don't have to worry about really overpressuring by seating the bullet up into the lands, like I have to do to when forming my .25-06 AI and .30-06 AI brass...

Re: RL33 strikes again!

I like the 300 ackley mag or the 308 Baer, but I've always considered a 300 wby easy to load for and can get just under 3200fps with 210 Bergers, with .190" freebore in a 30" barrel. Hoping to try it with 215 Hybrids in a 31" hawk hill barrel with ~.200" hybrid throat and go for 3300fps and accuracy, to use for a light gun.
