RL 17 in .308
Has anyone tried Reloader 17 in a .308 to see if it has any velocity gains or is it a little too slow burning for the cartridge.

Re: RL 17 in .308
I read where it was tried with the 155gr SMK's with less than stellar results, but they said that it would probably work well with the 168gr and heavier bullets. Let us know if you try it though...
Good luck!

Re: RL 17 in .308
From what i've seen, the heavy for caliber bullets like the 208 A-Max, 210 Berger etc perform VERY well in the .308 case with RL-17. There are a handful of very good articles on SnipersHide encompassing that info, it's work a look.

I haven't used it but would think that it is on the slow side. My buddy uses reloaded 15 and 168 and 175 SMK's and loves it. There are too many powders out there better than 17. Good Luck on your loads.

Before you make statements like that, you may take a look at these:
308 Win, 208 AMax, RL17
Range Test: Berger 215gr Hybrid in the 308 Win
Hornady 225gr BTHP in the 308 Win
RL-17 & heavies look to be giving the ole .308 a new lease on life.
