Rem VS 243 and 105 Berger vld

Just shot some 105 vlds outta my rem 700 vs. Tried imr7828ssc, aa3100, imr4350, r17, and h1000. All with a mid range charge and seated to 2.840". I think my 1:9.125 twist apparently is enough to spin em....they are not screamin out there but everything was .75moa or better. Best was the h1000, 44.1 gr got me 2750fps out of a 24" (I had it cut/crowned at 24 from 26) and posted a couple lil' groups bout .207" at 100. Then I poked 4 more out at my 260yd target and viola ...just under 3/4" as measured by my buddy Jason. Happy? I guess maybe. Do I quit or try to find some more velocity.?:

Re: Rem VS 243 and 105 Berger vld

A lot of time's a gun will have different velocity nodes that the gun is accurate at. You could probably push it to see if you get some more speed. Also you need to be aware of always checking for pressure. Below came from my reloading book.
7828ssc has a 44 grn load data for max @ 2915 97% fill
AA3100 max 43.5 @ 2821 98% fill
IMR4350 max 39.5 @2800 90% fill
On the 108 grain bullets my book shows a max charge of 46.4 of H1000 at 102% fill.
In the book most of the load data is very close to the same for the 105 and 108's. So you could probably work up close to the 46.4 while always checking for pressure. Just some thoughts. Also if you find another node you may have to play with seating depth a little but my experience once you find you seating depth that is accurate its most likely accurate with slight modification at higher charges as well. So for I've only had to move mine about .015 in/out and it brought it back in with the higher powder charge but every gun is different.

You probably want to find the max for your rifle with that powder. Hodgon lists 46 grains for max with 105 Amax and H1000, so you probably have a couple more grains before you top out. I would guess you will find another accuracy "node" at higher velocity before you max out. Then you can decide which you want to use.

I'm shooting a 6slr which is basically the same with a 105 and 47.4grns of h1000. The standard 243 should have just a hair more volume. If not try so h4831sc.

Don't hesitate to try off the shelf Superformance with the 105. I use it for my 105 amax.

Re: Rem Varmint synthetic 243 and 105 Berger vld

I finally got back out and tried 45.3 grains of H1000. Gun likes it but still not great velocity. Accuracy is superb close so Ill make note and continue up to 46 ish. Problem is when I get out to 1000yds ... Groups are not what I expected. Mirage/wind/shooter all acceptable because I shot my 308 also out there with no prob... Are vld's wobbling..??? Any suggestions on a good powder choice to try next? H4831sc? R-19? ??? I'd like to touch 2850-2900 out of 24".
