reccomend powder for 22-250

I,m new to this cartridge and was wondering what powder choice is good for bullets from 36gr.- 50gr. also what kind of grouping should I expect at 300 yards. Thank You for any information.

I have the rem 700 with heavy barrel 24" i think. I use Varget with the 50gn V-Max with great success. IDK about 300 yds groups but it does a fine job on prairie dogs at that distance. It does put 10 shots inside a quarter @ 100 yds all day long

I shoot a Mauser 98 .22-250AI with either 36 gr Barnes Varmint Grenades or 40 gr Sierra Blitzkings. Will consistently shoot about .9 moa when loaded with Varget. This has been my best powder to date.

Check out the following link:

22-250 Cartridge Guide within AccurateShooter.com

There is some excellent information contained in that article that should answer nearly any conceivable question about reloading for the 22-250.

As for accuracy expectation, that is highly dependent on what you intend to do with your rifle. If it is a lighter sporter intended for predator hunting, MOA or better with factory ammo is sufficient. However, if you intend to varmint hunt with it, you will want more in the neighborhood of 1/2 MOA with factory ammo (or at least a good handload).

FYI, I recently had my 22-250 re-barreled because it wouldn't shoot factory ammo under an inch @ 100 yards and my best handloads couldn't do better than .6" @ 100 yards. I wasn't happy with that. YMMV...

Re: reccomend powder for 22-250

I have a savage 112, 26" 12 twist in 22-250

40grn pills- Imr8208xbr or RL10x, 1/4 moa and 4250fps+ with either.

50-53grn- H4895 or Imr3031, groups about the same, speeds between 3830 and 3940fps.

55grn-Imr4064 or Varget, still holds about 1/4moa at around 3760fps, I can go over 3850fps with CFE 223 or Ar-comp but accuracy is only about half as good.

Varget for me in the 22-250 for 45's...50's....and 55 grain slugs. I use it in my 243 also and SOME loads in my 260.

Rem 700 HB VLS is my rifle

Dont know about 300 yd groups...but 3 shot 100 yd groups I can cover with a dime!
