Re: Realoader 22 and Reloader 25

If you're looking for temperature stable powder the Hodgen Extreme powders like H 4831 and H1000 are the best by far.
Currently I'm testing Magnum and MagPro in my 7mm Rem Mag. I'll have to get back to you on that.

RL22 was the most accurate powder in my 300WM Browning. But i needed to have a summer and a winter loading for it. Otherwise the rifle shot to different points on the target. If I used my 'summer ammo' in the cold ( 20* F) the group was as much as 2 inches from the bullseye. So if you like a RL22 or 25 for hunting, just deal with it. All it takes is more trigger time and how bad could that be?

Re: Realoader 22 and Reloader 25

AtownBcat,
It is advised by all the reloading manuals and by alot of folks on here, me included, to drop 10% and start again, when you change lots. It frustrated me at first, but I try to look at it differently. Like any good relationship you have to constantly work at it!
The best way around this is to buy in quantity. If I'm near the end of any powder I try and find at least two 1lb cans of it in my search (same lot #). This includes IMR, Hodgdon and Winchester. The Viht powders used to come in 2lb jugs, but I haven't bought any of those powders in a few years. I see them (Viht) in cute, little 1lb bottles now. The 8lb jugs seem like the best idea, but the family budget doesn't allow that. JohnnyK.

Re: Realoader 22 and Reloader 25

I am going to be loading some new Berger bullets

115gr in 25-06
150gr in 270 WSM
168 gr in 7mmRM

Previously, I used Magpro and H4350 but I want a slower powder to try. I have never been real happy with the accuracy I get with the magpro, but the velocities have been good. However, these bergers are heavier than I have used in any of these calibers.

Im torn between the Reloader 22 and Reloader 25.

RL 25 can be a little tricky to use. It only likes the top 1/2 of the loading chart or the neck won't properly seal in the chamber, creating a lot of carbon staining and gunk.
Also it's more sensitive to which primer you use.

RL 22 is MUCH easier to use working up loads.
and the accuracy is usually amazing.
So of the two, RL 22 gets my vote.

My 270 WSM loves 68 grains of H 1000, WLR, 150 AB. 2960 FPS 3 shots in a dime.
Also 70 grains of Ramshot MAGNUM, WLR, 150 AB. 3050 FPS. 3 shots in a quarter.
My 7mm RM was pretty happy with H 1000 also but not like the 270 WSM.

Good luck with the powder hunting.
I'm still trying to find the 'magic' powder for my 7mm RM.

My270 WSM has a fairly tight chamber.
Your mileage may differ.

Yep, particularily if you buy 1 lb cans of temp sensitive powders.

If you find a lot that works, go back and buy a bunch of it to keep from doing that or use something other than temp sensitive powders.

that highlights the importance of a chrono too, to monitor MV and see if one lot is similar to the old lot.
