QuickLoad Help Please

Could someone with Quick Load please run the info and give me a starting load with this combo? Thanks!

300 H&H, 26 barrel", 215 Berger Hybrid, RL17 powder (I know they say RL17 isn't the best choice but you have to try it to see)

Thanks Don. Did they give you a specific powder charge of RL17 that gave these numbers? That's what I'm after, a starting charge to work up from.

This is from Quick Load and is just a guide. You are right about RL17 being a lousy powder for the 300 H&H. Check out the burn rate.

300 H&H

Starting Load....Pressure 46,700psi
26" Barrel 23.96" of bullet travel.
215gr Berger
56gr RL17
Velocity 2575fps
Fill 81.2%
Burn 100% @ 16.9" of bullet travel

Near Max Load...Pressure 54,325psi
26" Barrel 23.96" of bullet travel.
215gr Berger
59gr RL17
Velocity 2688fps
Fill 85.5%
Burn 100% @ 13.8" of bullet travel

Thanks Jim! That's what I needed. The slower burning powders have only produced 2600-2670fps at max load (RL22 and H1000). I figured it couldn't hurt to try. The top velocity numbers you've listed aren't too far off from where I'm at now, we'll see.

Re: QuickLoad Help Please

Just to give you guys a quick report on what RL17 produced in the old H&H.
I loaded up 5 rounds in 1 grain increments starting at 59.0 up to 63. Seating depth is mag length (3.675"), I used 215GM mag primers and Norma brass. First shot of 59 grains produced only 2629fps with very mild pressure signs. Shot the 60.0 grain round and it was definitely over max. It produced 2715fps. Obviously there is no speed advantage to using RL17 in this set up. However, one has to try to know for sure. RL22 has only produced around 2590fps at max load. H1000 has been the most consistent (inside 7 ES) and at 69.5 grains has produced 2670fps with very mild pressure signs. I wish I could get my hands on some H4831SSC, I have a feeling this would be the great fit. It also may be that I am just not going to get over 2700fps (with any powder) without excess pressure period.
