So would I be correct in assuming that the Federal 210M and the Federal 215M are both the same diameter but the difference being in the charge and it's intent?
Yes, you are correct. And using a magnum primer in an already hot load in a standard cartridge can be catostrophic.

Re: Which Primer for my .300 Win Mag Load?

I worked up a load with fed 215s in my 06 with 200gr smks and imr 4350 I didn't notice any difference in accuracy I just did it because it was the only primers I could find at the time but I worked up to my load checking for pressure and I found one that was perfect so I'm going to continue to load it but I don't load any standard primers in mag cases to much powder to ignite

As long as you work up with that primer, you're fine...But if I took my already established load for my '06 AI, of 61.5gr of 7828 SSC with a Fed 210 primer....Then decided to willy-nilly stick in a Fed 215 Magnum primer in there, that would be BAD!

Re: Which Primer for my .300 Win Mag Load?

The Fed 215 is a bit hotter primer than the CCI 250 but either will do fine AS LONG AS YOU ARE STARTING LOW AND WORKING UP WITH THE POWDER. This is also true with using mag primers in smaller cases. Most ball powders recommend using mag primers. My pet 25-06 deer load uses CCI 250 with IMR 4350.

Re: Which Primer for my .300 Win Mag Load?

A lot of us up north hardly use standard large rifle primers unless we are lighting rather small charges of powder, like in a 243 or 22-250. When I've got a 5x5 buck in my scope and it's -20 f outside, I'm not needing a mild primer causing problems with a delayed fire because I'm lighting 100 grains of slow burning powder. I'll develop the load with the mag. primer and take a variable out of the equation.

I started a thread awhile back about mag primers in 3006 and I took your advice about working up with fed215s I'm pretty sure it was you maybe not but I think it was and your right I never change any component without working back up
