Re: PACT dispenser/scale combo

I was going to buy one last week based on several reviews and post ive read. Then i read the reviews at midway. There were several negative reviews on the actual dispenser and bad reviews on custumer service. I changed my mind and bought the charge master yesterday. Found it on sale for $279.95 at natchezz shooters supply. Ill try to post the midway reviews if I can find them again. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...ductTabReviews

Re: PACT dispenser/scale combo

SheepA,
I have a Pact dispenser. I like it. The scale is very accurate for me, does not drift and seems to be very stable. The dispenser, while not the fastest, seems to be consistent. I have mine set to .2gr below whatever my target charge is, and it allows trickling up. For me it works. The only gripe I have with the unit is changing powders, as you have to recalibrate every time you change, but I don't change that often, so is not a deal breaker.

Hope that helps.

I have delt with PACT for 15 years now, and they've always done well with my errors. I simply can't think of anything to complain about! I even went so far as to scramble all of the software in a scale once like they'd never seen. The guy (on the phone) went thru each and every step to reset it all (took about forty minutes). He said that this was the first time they'd ever seen anybody manage to do this, and later called back to make sure it was still going. Later I managed to tangle my big feet up in the cable on my chronograph. Pulling one set of cables out of the cell. My fault 100%. I called them up to order a new set of cells (they sell them in pairs). He wanted to just give them to me! I wouldn't have it, and paid for them on the phone. He shiped them 3 days priority on their bill. Now if that's bad customer service I kinda wonder what they think about Redding?

I based my decision on reviews from the 6BR forum, and some road tests run by folks that I knew they were doing things right. The RCBS is a great unit, but not $110 better. Tobe be exact not $25 better. If you got deep pockets; then of course buy the RCBS. But I know from past practice where I'm going.

I spoke with PACT about that recalibrate isse, and they simply said it was a saftey issue that should be done everytime you change powder types. (made sense to me). I'd rather take a few minutes to recalibrate that have a doctor pull the bolt shroud outta my face

Re: PACT dispenser/scale combo

I've had a Pact for about 7 years and I am satisfied. Recently I was able to borrow a new DPS 1200 and do some speed comparisons. I thought that the Lyman would probably kick butt....I was surprised. I only timed large loads of around 90 grains H1000 and the two machines were consistently within 3 to 5 seconds of each other. The average time was 33 to 36 seconds for both...with the PACT winning about 40% of the time.
The Pact dumps powder faster and then takes more time during the final trickle stage. The Lyman chugs along a little slower but closes the gap at the end faster. Occasionally the Pact settles in at 1 grain under, but I can tap the spout or trickle. The Lyman was more consistent as to final charge weight...but not enough gain there to make me want to buy a newer machine. I hope to be comparing the RCBS soon...my conclusion..."The Pact is a little less consistent as to final weight but not much".
Also the calibration everybody's talking about is simply the machine cycling about 165 grains of powder to sync the dump rate for different powders....only takes a few minutes.
Note...one feature I dislike about the Lyman was the warm up cycle...now that is a real time killer in my opinion. 30-338
