Old Military Brass and new primers

Have some old new winchester military brass. 1945. New primers wont fit in due to a tight "ring" at the mouth of the primer cavity. It is also real loose past this ring. Has anyone reloaded this stuff? Are there tricks to it?

Thanks.

Re: Old Military Brass and new primers

Military primers are crimped. That is the "ring" that you see. RCBS, Dillon & other companies make swagers/cutters for removing this crimp. If you only have a few to do you can sometimes get by with a chamfering tool to remove the "ring" or crimp. Military match brass does not have crimped primers.

Thanks. Used your lead and found what I was looking for at Midway. Also found this video.

YouTube - Basic Reloading: Crimped Primers

Works with a deburring tool, but it seats with force and doesn't help my nervous tic any .
