Message: I am a licensed Gunsmith and Licensed Ammunition
Manufacture. Recently I bought a Box of 50 pieces of Nosler 300 Win
Mag brass from MidwayUSA to load for a customer who I built a custom
rifle. I checked and trimmed the brass for OAL length and neck
chamfer. I loaded the brass to SAAMI spec COL 3.304\". All fifty
originally inspected with a Wilson case gauge, appeared within SAAMI
specs. A second closer inspection revealed that 3 case were
headspacing off the shoulder and not the belt (.007 excessiove lenght
in the case head to shoulder measurment). There also was a .0015
differance in the measurment between the case head and the front of
the belt. .2175 and .2185 still under the SAAMI .220 spec. The
problem was those three cases that were about .007 to long in the
shoulder. I pulled the loaded cases and resized them bumping the
shoulder back to within SAAMI specs and retrimmed the necks. I
thought you however should know about these three cases. That
reflects a 6% failure to pass inspection and/or feed in a rifle. I
will check and see if I still have the original box so that I can get
the lot numbers. You may be able to get this information from
MidwayUSA. Having paid the price I did for this brass, I was somewhat
disapointed. I had heard a lot of good things about Nosler Brass. I
hope you can resolve these issues so others want have any problems
loading your brass.
