That what I have done in the past as well but the scale keeps getting errors. Been through the reset procedures at least 10 times no joy. Cleaned everything to try to eliminate any error. But it is not close to the beam scale.

Re: Need powder dispenser advice

I have had the lyman DPS III for 4 years and have great luck with it. I load thousands of rounds with it every year and the only problem I have had is with throwing .1 or .2 grains heavy with larger extruded powders. I simply set the target weight .2 grians short and trickle the last. I check weight with independant scales frequently and have not had any variances. I mostly load with varget, H1000, retumbo, win 296, Hogden 4831 SC.

You are luckier than me. My uncle has the DPS II and used it for years with no problems. When the 4th DPS III in a year quit working I decided I was done using Lyman electronics. I wish I could say that the scale got thrown around or left in the super hot/cold, but it sat in one location on a table and didn't get moved and would just give up the ghost.

Re: Need powder dispenser advice

I have had a Lyman DPS for 8 years atleast maybe a few more, and it has worked well over that time. A few times it will be set on 0 and then start to climb with nothing on the scale. Not sure why, no lighting issues but it may be it feedback from the outlet I'm not sure. I still use it some but not like I did when I first got it I just don't trust . A buddy of my has had 2-3 Lymans and they all have stopped working for him. I am going to get the new RCBS as soon as I can afford to. Right now I have a older version of the rcbs 750 and it seems to never have any issues. I just use it and the lee dippers and I can dispense powder almost as fast with that method as I can with the lyman.

Re: Need powder dispenser advice

my lyman is 5 years old and works just fine. Only trouble was it like the other posters would throw charges a bit heavy. I got ahold of lyman and they sent me a little piece that screws on the dump pipe that constricts it a bit and it cured my problem totaly.
