Re: Looking for .270 win loads for 130 grain

I'd say go with the 140gr for sure. I used to shoot only 130 but one can appreciate that 10gr difference after awhile. I hunt strictly whitetails and 90% are DRT with my only runners being under 50yds at the time of the shot and they only make it 10-12yrds.

140gr Nosler BT
52gr IMR-4350
Winchester brass
CCI primer
COAL- 3.25in

I'm working on a load for Sierra GameKings in 140gr hollow point. I want the range of the sierra's but more expansion under 200yds that the HP will give me.

Go to the Norma web site and you will find loads for different weight bullets using Norma MRP powder.

With 130 grain bullets the Min is 55.0 grains and the Max is 58.2. I have not used this powder but it should work well with 130 or 140 grain bullets. For deer my favorite bullet is 130 Accubonds for shots under 400 yards.

If you go with a 140 I have had excellent results with this load out of my 22" barreled Model 700.
It averages 3000fps out of that short barrel and shoots under 1/2inch easily at 100yds. At 700yds I was able to bust 4inch or so sized rocks off of sandbags.

    140gr Hornady SST or BTSP
    56grs IMR 4831
    Federal Brass
    Winchester LR Primer
    C.O.A.L. 3.290in

I tried alot of loads using 130gr Sierra's and B-TIP .When I tried 60grs of H4831 I got dime size groups at 200 yds. It's by far the best load out of my 700

I've never used the Norma powder but my .270 rem 700 really likes 130g SSTs with 61g of H4831sc. Cloverleaf groups at 100 yds are the norm with occasional one hole groups. I've also just worked up a load with 130g TSX and 52.7g of H4350. So far groups are less than .5" at 100yds. May not be the fastest but it's damn accurate. I'm using win cases and win WLR primers in both loads.
